To celebrate new year's with my family, we went to visit my aunt in Murcia. After digesting the delicious food and recovering from the also delicious drinks, we went for some sight seeing in Andalucia. Besides traveling to Granada and Sevilla, we managed to do a hiking tour in the Alpujarras mountains and spent some days in staw huts near the surfing beaches of Tarifa.
Murcia
Granada
Still, for me Granada stays on of the most marvellous cities, but it gets really cold in winter. We could sit outside if the sun was out and nevertheless there's a lot to do and to see.
What I didn't know before is that Ralley Dakar was passing Granada while we were there. So I draged myself to the outskirts to see the start in the morning and there I also met Maria-Ana.
The Alpujarras
An absolutely nice mountain region with lovely white villages and a lot of hinking trails are the Alpujarras on the south side of Sierra Nevada. In some days you can go all the way up to the high peaks, but we left it at a one day round trip from Pampaneira to Capileira.
In January the sun sets early and it was a little too early due to the fact that we were beaten off the track. But luckily I had my new Petzl head lamp with me and my dad as an experienced scout who went out to explore the right paths.
Los Caños de Meca
After leaving Granada and the Alpujarras, we went further west to spend some days in Los Caños de Meca, a nice village near Tarifa. Manon had found out a cool place before where we stayed in cosy straw huts. Granted, it was cold at night, but with some blankets it was fine.
A few days in Galicia
After my family returned home, I had a few days left to visit Alicia, Bea and Monica in La Coruña who I met last September on the Camino de Santiago.
In Coruña it was quite wet, but suprisingly warm. There are many cool celtic pubs, and a terrific green coast. And it's especially nice if you can hang out with some friends that can show you all the places!
